Confederate home made cover with two Jefferson Davis blue stamps (cancelled) – Tear at top as seen in picture – Since I am not in any way familiar with any stamps of any period, I will put this up for bid. I do have a reserve. The advertised 2 stamp simply means in time of the Civil War no mail was delivered, you went to the post office to get it. The 2 means that the post office charged the customer 2 cents to advertise the letter in their possession.

Gettysburg letter written from a gentleman living at 209 Baltimore Street Friday morning July 3rd 1863 – A wonderful letter in which he states “Alas they have other work than writing letters. The battle, the great long dreaded battle is ever now raging” – Last dispatches state that the 12 corps is moving up – Since I don’t know where the 209 address is and nobody seems to want to let me know in Gettysburg, I am assuming that it is in the location of the 12th corps which was not yet in Battle and is today towards route 15? – The beginning of the letter leads me to believe he was writing letters for some of the soldiers for the 150th which was a New York Regiment in the 12th Corp – He is stating that he is trying to be calm and hopeful and has made arrangements made to go at any moment – I have translated as much as I could and it will accompany the letter – It had two folds

A letter from Samuel J. Reeves Vice President and Treasurer from the office of the Phoenix Iron Company. Headquarters for the Phoenixville Iron Company were in Philadelphia at that time and is dated September 12th 1862. This is one letter that I would, frankly, not want to sell because I find it entertaining. In the letter a gentleman had appeared in his office that morning requesting a 3” rifled gun, one that was good enough for service but not up to the U.S. government acceptances.  He goes on to say that he does have one on hand for him to inspect. (Isn’t that amazing) He also states that the government pays $357 per gun finished including a pendulum-hausse. A wonderful letter for any artillery collector. Phoenixville, PA was the home of the 3” Phoenix cannon.

A grouping of letters, 13 in all, pertaining to Pvt. Aaron Frost Co. F 12th Mass. Pvt. Frost was killed in the Battle of Bull Run on August 9th 1862. Only one letter is from him directly. The balance from his officers and family etc. In the letter to his father, he mentions that he was made the regimental bugler. He also states in the letter that he wants to make a present for his brother of the cornett that he has at home. The date of the letter is January 24th 1862.  He would die 197 days later. What’s interesting about this letter is that somebody took his letter, maybe his mother, and wrote on the back to someone in the family named Rosetta. A very nice grouping and in good condition.

Photo grouping of Doctor Samuel G. Dearborn M.D. He was the surgeon of the 8th New Hampshire Vol. C.D.V. of him in his uniform. No b/m. It looks like the photo at one time was pasted in a book. A small tear in the upper right corner. Two C.D.V.’s of Henrietta Dearborn his wife, a very good photo of him at old age with photographers name, and his obituary and photo are included. His military records accompany the above. A wonderful grouping.

Letter to his Excellency A.G. Curtin Governor of the State of PA dated September 21st 1862 from Capt. Daniel N. Mulvany? Capt. Troop Norris Cavalry. Very strange letter in which the Capt. advises the governor to have nothing to do with a gentleman by the name of John A. Martin of Montgomery County. He mentions in the letter that Mr. Martin is not to be trusted and an abundance of evidence can be furnished to show that he has been giving speeches to his troops advising them not too join the military. A very interesting letter sent to the governor of PA. An additional page showing Vol. names entering the service of the states accompanies the letter.  I do not think it has anything to do with the letter.  Stains and folds.
